Why Live in West Chester Ohio

why live in west chester ohioIf you’re looking for a peaceful, rural lifestyle that is still within an easy commute of a major city, then Ohio’s West Chester Township might just be what you’re looking for.

The area often described by locals as West Chester Ohio is actually one of the thirteen townships that make up Ohio’s Butler County. Located about 18 miles north of Cincinnati, the township had more than 60,000 residents in the last census. With a median income of $93,722 in 2010, it is also one of the state’s most wealthy rural townships.

Despite the population, much of the township is low density rural living and West Chester Ohio residents have resisted efforts to incorporate into a city. For now, the township is still run by three-member board of trustees and an elected financial officer. Several smaller towns within the township have also resisted efforts to incorporate, with most residents citing the cost as their biggest hurdle.

The county is traditionally very Republican, with the nation’s Republican presidential candidate generally receiving more than 70% of the township’s votes during an election year. The township was the site of a 2012 Mitt Romney rally, which drew rock singer Kid Rock and more than 30,000 participants.

The largest local employer is the Lakota School District, but both GE Aviation and BAE Systems have nearly 1,500 local employees. Other large local employers include Cornerstone brands, Isotoner, CEVA Logistics and Proctor & Gamble.

The mix of reasonable real estate costs and a vibrant local economy have made West Chester Ohio a popular choice for people living in the greater Cincinnati Metro area. The commute into the city is a reasonable one and the local school district consistently rates at the top of the state’s test scores. It’s considered to be a great place to raise a family and the township has a number of family-oriented activities suitable for kids of all ages.

The township boasts a number of notable former and current residents, including current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John A. Boehner; Cincinnati Bengals fullback John Conner; for Cincinnati Reds players Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. as well as Texas Longhorns linebacker Jordan Hicks.
